Dining Chair Do-Over

The Frigidaire Gallery™ Dishwasher gets dishes fully cleaned the first time, so there are no dish do-overs. Nearly half of adults admit to re-washing and/or re-drying dishes after the dishwasher cycle has been completed. To prevent dishwasher do-overs, Frigidaire® is stepping in with its new Gallery® Dishwasher featuring the OrbitCleanTM Wash Arm, ensuring dishes are cleaned right the first time.

When we bought our house almost 3 years ago I also got to buy my first, real, new dining set.  When I picked it, I had some reservations about the chairs having upholstered seats, but I really liked the table and the chairs looked great with it.  The sales guy told me that the seats clean really well and he sold us the protection plan thing.  (Don't every buy the protection plan for dining chairs, it is useless.)  So we bought the set.

As you can see the seats are a fairly light color.  I soon learned that they really didn't clean as nicely as the sales guy had said.  In fact they were horrible.  Every little thing that my kids spilled on those seats was there FOREVER.

Pretty soon the chairs all looked like the chair on the left here.  SO GROSS.  I swear I had scrubbed the seats of those chairs and tried just about everything I could think of, but they just weren't coming clean.  I also tried using that projection plan I bought, but they would only come clean a stain within 5 days of the stain happening and they would not clean the whole seat.  They would only clean the stain you called in about.  I thought about spilling some kind of red drink all over all the chairs at the same time and then maybe they would have to come clean the chairs, but that didn't really seem worth it and it took me days to get a hold of the customer service people the first time.  So one night I took a $3 plastic tablecloth I had in one of my cupboards, unscrewed the seat from the base and stapled that bad boy on there.   It looked really great at first and was not to much work since I didn't remove the old fabric, I just stapled the table cloth right over the top.

Okay, don't do this.  I was experimenting and it was a fail.  It looked great for about a week, but cheap tablecloths are not a good choice for upholstery fabric.  Although it could be a fun temporary idea for a party or something.  It just won't look good long term, it's too easy to stretch or tear the tablecloth.

Then, way back in January, I finally found the perfect fabric for my chairs.

Isn't it pretty???  It is a laminated cotton and I love it.   It wipes nice and clean, but isn't as plastic-y as covering your chair with that clear plastic.  My step-dad actually recovered my chairs for me while they were visiting from Alaska back in May.  It has been over a month and the laminated cotton is holding up REALLY well - much better than that flimsy tablecloth I used on the first chair.

Looking back I probably would have still chosen the chairs I did, they really were the best choice for my budget and I do like them.  I just wish I hadn't wasted the money on that silly protection plan and that I found this fabric a lot sooner.  It was definitely worth the do-over to use the laminated cotton instead of the cheap tablecloth.  I love my chairs again!

Welcome To Summer Party

I must admit... I like to throw parties.  Kids always have so much fun at parties, they remember parties, and I can't help but think to myself they are only little for so long and then they are gone.

So this year I had the grand idea to throw a huge welcome to summer party for the kids.
To make this party possible I had to have the help of several moms in the neighborhood, and we had each kid  pay $3 to cover the cost.  I think everyone was totally okay with the $3 and that way we could really make it an awesome party.

And it was AWESOME.  I think now I will have to make it an annual thing.

The most important part of any party is the food right???

I kept the food really kid and outdoor friendly.  No need for plates or utensils here.

We had tons of popcorn, 7up with Kool-aid ice cubes, water, mini cupcakes and
What kid doesn't get excited about cotton candy being made right in front of them?

But the real show stopper of the party was the Kona Shaved Ice Truck.

Seriously, when the Kona Truck rolled up everyone was so excited.   I really can't even tell you how awesome this was.  Just think about how excited your kids get when they hear the ice cream truck coming and then time it by a lot.
They have fun music playing and the kids get to pour their own syrup for it.

The truck could have been the whole party and I think the kids would have thought it was awesome.

By the way their ice is really good, like snow in a cup.  I just mention this because I have had shaved ice before that is crunchy, and this is not crunchy.

To speed up the process and get everyone through the line as quickly as possible we had it prearranged with the truck that everyone would get a medium shaved ice and we passed out carnival tickets (purchased from the dollar store) for the kids to pay with.  Then when we were all done we just counted up the tickets and I made one payment.  The tickets are also the only reason I know about how many kids were there.  When it was all said and done we gave them 77 tickets.  We made sure no kids got two tickets by marking their hands.  The mom at the gate marked each kid's hand as they paid and then marked it the other way when she gave them a ticket.

There was also plenty of big time summer fun.
We had a huge water fight.  I think there were over 700 water balloons.

Everyone got their face painted.  I bought the face paints at Walmart, the crayon kind worked a lot better than the little paint pots.

We had a slip n slide with a snake sprinkler at the top.  This thing was 10 feet by 25 feet.  It is a 6mil plastic painter's trap from Home Depot.  We also had a few kiddie pools with sponge balls set up,

and a photo booth.

These are so hot right now and for a good reason.  They are so fun.

I got the leis, hats, and sunglasses at the dollar store.

Oh man.  Good times.  You know your party was a success when a 4 year old comes up to you and says thanks for the party and his mom didn't even tell him to.  :)

And thanks to the moms who helped support my craziness.  I couldn't have done it with out you.

Friday Night Features

Ummmm, yes, I know it is in fact Saturday night, but here is the deal... Life happens.

Yesterday, Friday, was the last day for school for two of my kiddos.  So we had a kindergarten graduation in the morning  and then I had planned a "Welcome to Summer" party for my kids and about 70 other people in our neighborhood that afternoon.  After the party, Scott came home and we took the kids to the neighborhood pool for the first time this season.  Perhaps I should mention my house is a disaster zone.  Like you would think I have been in serious project mode for days (you know,  you know what I am talking about.  That mode you get in when you are working on a major project and your house falls apart and your kids go un-bathed and live off of fish crackers and fruit snacks for days.)  Anyway when we got back from the pool I took one look at the kitchen and declared we were eating out.  And of course we needed ice cream after dinner.  By the time we got home, got the kids ready for bed, and had prayer and scripture, it was LATE.  And I was so ready to crash, and I did.

I planned to just post this morning, but as it turns out my poor little baby was up all night with double ear infections.  Poor little thing hadn't complained about his ears at all and then he was crying all night.  I got him to the doctor this morning and then spent the rest of the day trying to get my house looking somewhat clean.

So here we are now.  My house is still a WRECK despite my cleaning as much as the kids would let me today, but my baby is feeling much better and I am ready for Friday Night Features.

You had better believe that I will be showing up at a summer party with this cake from Bird On A Cake at some point this summer.

I love the extreme happiness of this skittles and nerds cake from The 36th Avenue.

I must be hungry.  I am really wanting one of these cookies from Byby's Kingdom.

Okay okay enough food...

I know a few little boys who need these letters from Cherished Bliss in their room.

I rather adore this cute little table from Simple Home Life.
